Effects of alcohol : All characters can have two drinks without beeing affected. As soon as your character has a third drink, however, you must make a Backbone Check. If the Check succeeds, the drink does'nt affect your character. If the Check fails, your character is drunk. Cut all of a drunk character's Attributes Ratings to 1/2.
Continue to make Backbone Checks for each drink a character takes after the third. If he is drunk, your Backbone Rating is cut to 1/2 when you makes these Checks. If your character fails a Backbone Check when he's drunk, cut all of his Attributes Ratings to 1/4. He is now very drunk. If he continues to drink, you must make a Backbone Check for each drink he takes. If he is very drunk, your character falls inconscious once he fails a Backbone Check.

A lot of things can affect your character in an adventure, so you will often have to change your character's Attribute Ratings, based on specific situations. These changes are called modifiers. Some situations that can modify your character's Attribute Ratings are listed on the Referee's Screen.
All modifiers affect your character's Attributes the same way. They may :
The character dossiers in the Evidence Files list all of a character's modified Attributes Ratings next to his original Attributes Ratings. When your character's Attributes Ratings are modified for a period of time, you can keep track of the new ratings by marking the box near the appropriate Attribute Ratings column.
